This cabassa is a beaded shaker made from a gourd covered with a whole net of beads. This African instrument is used both by shaking and by rubbing the beads against gourd

Gourds are the fruits of some members of the curcubitaceae plants (the family of plants that include pumpkins and butternut squash), and are a highly sustainable resource
